Donald Trump has a long history of getting doctors to announce that his health is not only good, but utterly amazing. It’s equal parts comical and sad. Trump once had a White House doctor announce that he weighed just 239 pounds, when he was visibly three hundred pounds or more. Now Trump is at it again, and he’s giving something away.
Trump made a Truth Social post on Monday featuring a letter from a medical doctor who claims that Trump’s “cognitive exams were exceptional.” Yes that’s right, exceptional. Come on, these are cognitive exams. Either you can remember “person woman man camera TV” or you can’t. One of the questions on a cognitive exam is whether you can identify a picture of a lion. Either you’re senile or you’re not. There’s no “exceptional” outcome to this exam. It’s not an IQ test to see if you’re a genius. This is theater of the absurd.
What stands out is that Donald Trump (or more likely his babysitters) are clearly feeling the heat when it comes to his worsening cognitive decline. Trump is now at a point where he can’t give a speech without saying something so senile that it makes the news. Now suddenly Trump’s doctor is announcing that his cognitive abilities are “exceptional.” Why not stupendous? How about marvelous? Next a doctor will announce that Trump has gained the power of flight.
This is a clear attempt at pushing back against what we’re all seeing happen to Donald Trump. We’re all watching him slip deeper and deeper into senility. The kicker is that because this defense is so cartoonishly over the top, it’s just going to help amplify the questions about Trump’s cognitive abilities.
