Around a year after her work on the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Donald Trump supporters are renewing attacks on former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney as a “traitor,” Newsweek reported.

While Cheney, who represented Wyoming as a Republican, has always been a target of vitriol from MAGA since she took her seat as vice chair of the Jan. 6 committee and became an outspoken critic of Trump, the heat has picked up since House Speaker Mike Johnson announced Friday that he was releasing thousands of hours of footage from the riot — footage that he and others say proves that Capitol Police allowed protesters to enter the building and walk freely throughout its halls.

“Liz Cheney & Nancy Pelosi used their corrupt J6 committee to demonize every Trump supporter in the country,” Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson wrote on X. “What’s being revealed from the J6 tapes is SHOCKING. They lied to the country and used J6 to weaponize government to promote their own corrupt agenda. Horrible people!!”

In another X post cited by Newsweek, a Trump supporter said Cheney was “guilty of treason” and even “manslaughter.”

Trump has been indicted by the Department of Justice for his alleged role in the attack, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
