Natural Medicine, Naturopaths And Naturopathy

In the field of alternative and holistic medicine, there are a number of options. Some of these include, reflexology, Reiki, radionics, phrenology, parapsychology, osteopathy, homeopathy, eugenics, crystal healing, Christian Science, chiropractic, acupuncture, acupressure and Naturopathy. With the exception of a few which have proven effective, most of these are still considered to be on the fringe of Western medicine.

When it comes to naturopathic treatments, providers often use a number of pseudo-scientific applications which are thought to be non-invasive or natural. As the practice is also considered a self-help method, the techniques and ideology behind the practice are based on folk lure and vitalism. As a result, most providers in this area only use natural medicine and treatments while recommending individuals avoid following Western practices and practitioners.

Practices which naturopathic providers recommend avoiding include surgery, vaccinations, drugs and medical testing. While this is the case, there is currently a strong push for children to become vaccinated against communicable diseases as has always been required for public school. For, measles and other illnesses, if not caught early can often be deadly.

Even with the threat that measles and other communicable diseases can often be deadly if not caught early, some parents still refuse to vaccinate babies and children. In other cases, parents reject the notions which natural medicine is based on, and still move forward with vaccinations and enroll children in public school. In either case, it should be noted that most treatments provided by naturopathists nor natural medications have been scientifically proven as effective.

It is for this reason that this type of practice is often considered ineffective and harmful by the medical community. The lack of testing has also raised ethical questions about the practice. Whereas, the American Cancer Society along with the medical community has often considered practitioners to be charlatans practicing nothing other than quackery. At the same time, there are a number of individuals which claim natural treatments are more effective and less invasive than others which have been prescribed by Western doctors in the past.

Some naturopathic providers are better than others. In fact, there have been a number which have been taken to court and found guilty of committing a crime related to issues which resulted from treatment. In response, a number of holistic providers, including naturopathists now identify as primary care providers.

Since inception sometime around 1902, the practice has been based on the belief that various areas of the body can heal over time. In order to do so, the individual must focus on the life force or chi energy while focusing on the area which needs healing. After which, it is believed that the energy will cycle to that area of the body to promote healing.

Most consultations with these providers include a review of past health issues, current lifestyle, physical attributes along with questions about emotional and mental health. In addition, most require a physical exam in which the provider can obtain height, weight, bone structure, muscle strength and any skin conditions which may be present at the time. For, these individuals often work to heal the entire body rather than one issue at a time.
