For the most part, children do enjoy learning. However, it is common for students to feel restless being in the classroom every day. To keep things interesting, teachers could try taking their students on a few school adventure trips.
All school-age children enjoy getting out of the classroom for an outdoor adventure. Studies show that most children are more enthusiastic about learning when they actually get firsthand experience. This is a great way for teachers to re-emphasis a lesson they've just completed and to see how much the children have really learned.
Teachers of any variety of subjects could plan a school outing. Students of subjects such as Social Studies, Science and Art would find these adventures to be educational and enjoyable. Skeptics just need to ask a few children about any trips they've been on to realize how much they really do learn.
Science is a great topic to study on an outdoor trip. A teacher could take students on an outing to a nearby stream or pond after completing a segment on biology. This would give the students a firsthand glimpse at what types of organisms can be found nearby.
An outdoor trip could be perfect for a Social Studies class as well. Attending a reenactment of a battle performed by a historical society or local park would be very beneficial. Students are much more likely to remember what they saw in person compared to what they've read in a text book.
Art teachers could also take their classes on an outdoor trip or two. Making a collage from sticks and leaves they find outside would be a fun activity for younger students. An outing in the city would be perfect for older students who may be studying architecture.
There's really no limit to what is possible. The experience of going on a few school adventure trips can be fun and educational for all students. It is also quite rewarding for teachers as they'll see firsthand how much their students have learned.
